Devil May Cry Season 2 Produced by Studio Mir, created by Adi Shankar
I thoroughly enjoyed the anime's fighting choreography, art style, and background music and Season 2 maintains that very same rhythm and quality. If you haven't watched Devil May Cry Season 1 yet, there is absolutely no point in watching Season 2 you won't understand anything, nor will you be able to follow the storyline, as watching Season 1 is essential to fully appreciate Season 2.
For those unaware, the Devil May Cry anime series is an adaptation of the legendary Capcom video game franchise. This video game series is incredibly popular, having sold over 26 million copies worldwide a fact that alone speaks volumes about the franchise's immense popularity.
The series was created by Adi Shankar, the producer behind Netflix's Castlevania. An interesting fact is that this anime was not produced by a Japanese studio, but rather by a Korean studio: Studio Mir famous for its work on The Legend of Korra and The Witcher: Nightmare of the Wolf.
Devil May Cry Season 2 - Story and Setup
The story of Devil May Cry Season 2 picks up exactly where Season 1 left off. Season 2 opens with the declaration of war against the Demon Realm. After Dante was left in cryostasis at the end of Season 1, his powers awaken, and he returns to aid Lady.
A war between worlds ignites as Dante must battle the only force that mirrors his own his estranged twin brother Vergil. In the second season of our record breaking series, Dante must confront his own devils and the feeling of family he lost as a child. With the reemergence of Vergil, will Dante lay to rest old demons or fall victim to them?

Dante and Vergil Twins Brother
The central emotional hook of Season 2 is the return of Vergil (voiced by Robbie Daymond), who now serves as an elite soldier in the army of the Demon King, Mundus. Furthermore, Vergil shares a reunion with Dante, after which the two brothers confront their shared childhood trauma. They interact with one another and also discuss the death of their mother, Eva. To find out what unfolds next, you will have to watch Season 2 of Devil May Cry on Netflix.
Season 2 heavily explores the reasons behind the two brothers choosing their distinct paths all of which is depicted through flashbacks to their childhood. Throughout the season, Dante undergoes significant evolution, transforming from a stylish hero into a responsible warrior; this newfound maturity may very well remind viewers of the original game. Season 2 features the battles between the twin brothers, their power struggle, and reveals the fate of the Throne of the Underworld.
Vergil - The Best Thing About Devil May Cry Season 2
It's pretty safe to say that Season 1 of the show was more or less divisive as a whole, even if I came away more on the positive end as opposed to the negative. There were certainly some frustrating elements and there was room for improvement. Let's be real though, the main reason I had any faith in season 2 was knowing Vergil was going to be a big part of it.

Devil May Cry Season 2 Vergil
Vergil as an addition to Season 2 is a major positive. He's one of the most thrilling parts of the narrative besides elevating Dante as a character, pushing him emotionally, grappling with the guilt, discovering he's still alive, then believing that he can try and save him because he thinks that he's under Mundus's control. There are multiple clashes between them spread out across the season. Some were their adversary, some were they're temporarily working together. Each and every one of them are 10 out of 10. They're intense, thrilling. Some of them feel ripped right out of the early 2000s with the soundtrack blasting in the background.
The greatest example as far as the usage of the soundtrack to get that early 2000s feel there's an entire fight early on in Season 2 where Vergil is just mowing through various soldiers in bloody fashion set to Drowning Pool's Bodies. If you're going into Season 2 of Devil May Cry wanting to see Vergil and how cool he is, they make sure to remind you every single time.
When Season 2 of Devil May Cry is at its best is when the story focuses around Dante and Vergil and how differently they operate based on their upbringing. For as cool and stoic as Vergil is portrayed in Season 2, it's engaging navigating how Vergil's fueled by vengeance and disdain for humans, whereas Dante is the complete opposite. In between all of the fun quips he makes, all of these human emotions that Dante believes are a major flaw are in actuality one of his greatest strengths.
Dante - Getting Closer to the Game Version
I continue to really like Johnny Yong Bosch in the role of Dante. There's several little different moments with Dante where he does pretty much embody the character. I've kind of become more accustomed to him actually voicing Dante now. Fortunately, even in his various defeats against Vergil, I feel like we're inching closer and closer to Dante from the video games personality-wise.
The all-action in Season 2 is even bigger than last season and that includes the soundtrack. The fight scenes in Season 2 are excellent arguably even better than those in Season 1.
Arius A Surprisingly Great Villain
One of the more surprising bits about Season 2 is the addition of Arius as the main villain. Out of the plethora of different Devil May Cry villains in the video games, Arius was never one of my particular favourites or anything. So, for me personally, I like this interpretation of Arius a whole lot more in the Netflix series compared to Devil May Cry 2.

Devil May Cry Season 2 Arius Viilain
It does help that in Season 2 Arius is voiced by the iconic Graham McTavish. He brings this commanding presence and does an excellent job bringing menace to a character whose entire end goal is deceiving everyone and bringing chaos upon the world. The multiple different fights he has with Dante and Vergil are awesome especially since he keeps getting bigger and more powerful each and every time. So, by the time we get to the big climactic fight in Episode 7 and the finale, the spectacle of it all is just wild.
Lady - Still Frustrating, But More Tolerable in Season 2
The only one that's kind of tricky is Lady. We're all aware that she was a lightning rod of frustration last season. I definitely feel like they tried to tone her down slightly in Season 2 to make her a bit more tolerable. She still is occasionally pretty annoying she is still dropping F-bombs for no reason most of the time.
Besides that, she's involved in some pretty good action sequences while spending a great deal of the season wrestling with her emotions and actions from Season 1. Not only that, but she's wrestling with romantic feelings that she has for Dante which I don't think are earned whatsoever. Nothing against the two of them being together, but in Season 2, they try to shoehorn it in about halfway through the story, making them randomly kiss. They don't build upon that well at all.
Episode Count, Runtime and Release Details
The season consists of a total of 8 episodes, each running approximately 40 to 45 minutes in length. All 8 episodes dropped simultaneously on Netflix on May 12, 2026 at 12:00 a.m. PT / 3:00 a.m. ET.
In short as the saying goes the show isn't over yet, my friend; this is just the beginning.
Final Verdict - Should You Watch Devil May Cry Season 2?
Well, not without some faults along the way, Season 2 of Devil May Cry mostly is a pretty entertaining experience. The core of this season, when it's firing on all cylinders from an action standpoint and emotionally, is when the focus is centered around Dante and Vergil. Their conflict mostly is done justice while laying down an intriguing enough continuation to build upon for Season 3.
Tough to say how I would score it kind of juggle between somewhere in the 7 to 8 out of 10 range. Some of that could be because I enjoy Vergil a lot as a character in the video game, so that certainly did help my experience. If you're not a big fan of Vergil for some reason, I think you're going to really dislike this season since he is such a huge focal point of everything.
Episode Rating: 7.5–8/10
Devil May Cry Anime Season 3 - Already Confirmed
